About the project

Buildings in the Making is a research project which explores the work of architects who design and develop buildings for health and social care in later life. Although not care professionals, architects are often employed to create settings where care takes place. Architectural design can enhance the quality of care for later life, so we must ensure that good, age appropriate designs get built. To understand how care environments get built the research opens the ‘black box’ between the commissioning and delivery of buildings. Shared vision and values across all the many stakeholders in the construction and social care sectors are be challenging yet crucial.

Explore the challenges and opportunities of making buildings for care in our final report.
